Ingredients
- 1 ounce black caviar
- 1 ounce salmon roe
- 12-16 plain or gourmet crackers (preferably lightly salted, such as water crackers or rye crisps)
- 2 tablespoons crème fraîche or sour cream
- Fresh chives or finely chopped shallots (optional, for garnish)
- Fresh lemon zest (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Crackers
- Arrange the crackers on a serving plate. Make sure they’re flat and sturdy enough to hold the toppings.
Step 2: Add the Crème Fraîche
- Place a small dollop (about ½ teaspoon) of crème fraîche or sour cream on each cracker.
- You can gently spread it, leaving a mound that allows the caviar to sit comfortably on top.
Step 3: Add the Caviar or Salmon roe
- Top each cracker with a spoonful of caviar or salmon roe.
Step 4: Garnish and Serve
- Garnish with finely chopped fresh chives, shallots, or a sprinkle of lemon zest for an added burst of freshness
Tips
- You can experiment with different types of crackers, such as those with herbs, seeds, or a bit of garlic, to enhance the flavor.
- For an even richer experience, add a thin slice of smoked salmon under the crème fraîche before adding the caviar.
- This dish works well as an appetizer for a sophisticated gathering or a special treat for yourself
