Nagasaki Prefecture in Japan has a typical oceanic climate—warm and rainy, with mild winters and cool summers. The loquats grown here are fragrant, sweet, and delicious, with an excellent appearance, making Nagasaki one of the main production areas for loquats in Japan. Originally from China, Nagasaki loquats were introduced to Japan during the Tenpō and Kōka eras. A maid named Shio Miura, who went to work in Nagasaki, received loquat seeds from a translator and started growing them at home. Since then, loquats have taken root in Japan.
