This perennial herb is widely used in Japan, Korean and Southeast Asian cuisine and traditional Chinese medicine.

Ooba is a member of the mint family. It has natural antibacterial and preservative properties, along with a uniquely refreshing aroma, making it the perfect pairing for fresh sashimi.

Beyond sashimi, ooba leaves can also be used as a substitute for seaweed when making rice balls, or deep-fried with uni (sea urchin) to create visually appealing and flavorful perilla uni tempura—a popular dish in Japanese cuisine.

It can also be processed into a fragrant seasoning sauce, ideal for use in noodles, salads, and more.
