Japanese Fluorescent Squid 340G
The firefly squid has light-emitting organs on its body that glow blue, which it uses to attract prey. Japan's Toyama Bay is the most famous production area for firefly squid. From March to May each year is their spawning season, during which they swim in large groups toward the coastal shallows to spawn, creating a spectacular phenomenon known as the “firefly squid light tide.”
Firefly squid is a representative spring delicacy in Japan, rich in DHA, EPA, and taurine. Common preparation methods include cold dishes, charcoal grilling, marinating, and tempura.
This particular firefly squid is sashimi-grade. It can be served with or without the innards. It is recommended to remove the eyes and beak before eating. One bite releases a burst of rich flavor.
